Family Newsletter

 Dear Families,

This week went by fast!  The students and I spent the time organizing and cleaning the classroom and we played lots of games together.  The students also had a lego challenge in our classroom.  They did great! Ask your child to explain the games Moose and Pig-two new favorites, I think!  We also had lots of extra special activities at ABS this week.  We visited the Bookmobile and the students had the opportunity to choose four new books from the Williston FAP.  Additional information about the Bookmobile and its summer schedule as well as information about the importance of continued summer daily reading was packed inside your child’s backpack yesterday.

I cannot believe this is the last time I am writing you all a weekly newsletter.  My last two years with your children have been wonderful.  I saw your children grow and mature into terrific young students, ready to face anything the world has to offer!  I wish them all the best this summer and in third grade!

I hope your child will take the time sometime in the near future and write me a little note to keep me posted on what is going on.  In fact, your child has a pre-addressed, stamped postcard ready to go inside the Home Folder!  Please consider writing me a quick note to let me know about your child’s adventures.  I will surely miss them all.

Have a great summer everyone!  I hope to hear from you and your child soon:)

Family Newsletter

 Dear Families,

Here is our week in review:

What a gorgeous week we had!  We tried to spend some extra time outside but the sun quickly became too strong so our times were unfortunately somewhat limited, but here are some pictures from having a picnic outside together:

Social-Emotional Learning:

  • This week, we reviewed expectations around being safe, kind and responsible as the warmer weather and the changing end-of-the-year schedules and routines can be challenging for young learners.

  • The students also participated in discussion and activities around using their own creativity while following simple directions and multi-step tasks.  They all did a great job!

  • The students are busy co-creating our classroom decor for the celebration of learning next week.  They take great pride in their projects and love to help out with more administrative tasks too to get the room ready.  What an amazing group of kids!  I sure will miss them all next year!

Reading and Writing:

  • We finished our classroom chapter book and will not start a new one next week.  Instead, we will read poetry and short stories as our new read alouds.  This week, the students really enjoyed some rather silly poems from the collection “When the teacher is not looking” by Kenn Nesbitt.

  • The students also had opportunities to read each other’s animal books.  They learned so much from each other’s reports.  They were also encouraged to write  compliments to each other and share what they learned and loved about the reports.  They were respectful and kind in their comments.

Math:

  • This week, second grade mathematicians worked on data collection.  They learned about bar graphs and tally graphs and had the opportunity to design their own surveys to find out more information about each other’s likes and preferences.  They did a great job applying new mathematical concepts to their own interests

Science:

  • Harmony House had the last 4 Winds class of the year.  This time we learned about pollination. Thank you parent volunteers for providing these interactive and hands-on classes for the students of Harmony House this year!.
