Pictures from our last week of school

Dear Families,
We had a fantastic last week of school together with lots of fun and engaging activities.  Here are some pictures for you and your child to look through.  Don't forget to stay in touch on our Kidblog over the summer.  There are already many new posts for you to read!

The students joined a special library class, learning about QR codes.  We used ipads and searched for books using QR codes.  When we found the books, we found another QR code to scan.  It was like a scavanger hunt using technology!

The students at ABS filled the Buzzy jar again so we had a surprise visit from Champ again!  We were so happy to see our friend again.  Let's make next school year safe, kind and responsible too!

We also celebrated our successes by having special movement activities on Team Harmony.  The students signed up for workshops and could visit classrooms to dance, sing and play group games.

On Team Harmony, we like to end the school year with a special "graduation" ceremony for the 2nd graders, who will now leave us for WCS and 3rd grade.  Our current 1st graders participate in a surprise art project for the 2nd graders and we present these in our Kiva.  This is a very nice tradition and filled with pride among all the students.

At ABS we also end the school year with a field-day at WCS.  This Fun Day is filled with many different activities and games.  We were very lucky that it did not rain this year.  We were so worried because the sky was dark, but as soon as the buses pulled into WCS, the sun came out and stayed out for most of the day!

Have a great summer and thank you all for a terrific year.  Stay in touch via email or on the blog.
See you in the fall.

Maria

Weekly Update

Dear Families,
It is hard to imagine but the school year is almost finished and  summer is upon us.  The students are busy packing up their belongings at school and I hope you have the chance to carefully browse through all the "goodies" coming home every day now.  You will notice that your child is bringing home materials and projects from all classes.  In writing, for example, your child will bring home his/her writing folder, which contains some finished, but also some unfinished writing pieces.  The writing folder might also contain graphic organizers and charts; things that help us take notes and organize our thinking in class.  Your child will bring home a brand new folder tomorrow containing published pieces in writing.  Please take the time to read through these amazing stories.  Thank you.
Our wish student, Eli, came to visit our classroom for the last time.  He was in our classroom once a week, helping us with projects and spelling.  we will miss him so much!  Thank you for helping us out.

We also had our last meeting with our learning buddies this week.  We spent an entire year learning together and we will miss them over the summer.  Ms. Davison and I are, however, in the process of setting up a summer reading blogs for returning students.  I will keep you posted about this very exciting project later!

Reminders:
  • Fun Day is scheduled for Monday, June 17th   We will visit WCS between 9am and 11am.
  • Last Day of School is June 18th.  Dismissal is at 11:35am.
  • Report cards go home on the last day of school, June 18th.
Have a great week,
Maria
