In Writer's Workshop, the students have learned the difference between two kinds of stories and writing pieces; personal narratives and constructed "on topic" responses.
Writing personal narratives require the author to "stretch" a story out over several pages, adding detailes to both pictures and words. The students learned to tell their stories on three fingers, with a clear beginning, middle and end.
Writing constructed responses, on the other hand, requires the author to not only stay on topic, but also provide 2-3 reasons why the statement/topic is true. It also ends with a clear concluding paragraph. In other words, it is reflected structured thinking in the format of a college esay! WOW! Our first topic was "My favorite toy". The students chose a favorite toy and gave 2-3 reasons why this toy is their favorite toy. They did an amazing job and we cannot wait to share these writing pieces with you! We think we want to podcasts them....what do you think? Please talk to you child and let me know.
Thank you.
