Weekly Update

Dear Families,

Thank you for returning the permission slips for our upcoming field-trip to Shelburne Museum on May 27th.  This is a whole day field-trip and the students need to pack snack, drinks and a bag lunch for the day. As this is mostly an outdoor event, children will also need to dress accoding to the weather that day. We are still looking for chaperones.  If you are willing, and able, to join us, please consider spending the day at Shelburne Museum with us!  If you can only join us half-day, that is fine too.  We will depart in the morning and return in the afternoon, in time for regular dismissal.  Some parents will drive to Shelburne Museum and meet us there, but some parents will also ride the bus with us.  Please let me know if you are interested.  Thank you.  If you did not return the permission slip, please send it in as soon as possible.  Thank you!
Reading Restaurant is next week.  It is on Wednesday, May 20th.  The first seating is between 6-6:40pm, and the second seating is at 6:50-7:30pm.  Your child will "work" in our restaurant when you attend.  Please come on time as we transition sessions promptly at 6:40.  Thank you!
The children are busy creating covered bridges and painting them for our reading restaurant.  It has been amazing to see them work together and solve the engineering aspects of this bridge structure.  They shared ideas with each other, used a variety of materials and re-created parts of their bridge structure if it needed reinforcements.  We found that when we painted our bridges, for example, the paint acted as heavy snow.  The added weight on our roof structures created new problems that the students had to solve.  Isn't science and engineering fun?!

This week, the students will continue working on various writing pieces for reading restaurant.  They will also work on putting their scrapbooks together.  We will continue with reading groups as well.  Your child is still expected to bring home homework every week.  Math comes home on Mondays in our homework folders and the math and the reading logs are due back on Friday.  Please return book club books on Friday as other students on our team read them as well.

I hope you all had a great weekend and Mother's Day!

Best,

Maria
